Let's Build Our Community

Why We Need Community

I moved back to Florida in 2017 with my young son from a rural area of North Carolina where we lived for five years. We had the best intentions moving there, thinking it would be a better place to raise our son. I quickly realized that we were more isolated than I had ever been and I sorely missed what I had taken for granted my whole life, which is human interaction and connection.

In our age of texting and social media, I can have immediate conversations with any number of friends who live all around the globe, from Australia to Sweden to Alaska and most places in between. I can take classes with someone halfway around the world from the comfort of my home. How convenient and normal this way of life has become, yet it still amazes me that mobile devices are barely ten years old and how quickly we became dependent on them, almost as an extension of our being.

But, what I didn't have was a friend to have a cup of tea with or to discuss the daily happenings of raising a child, picnics, birthday parties, holidays, or any other type of the usual gatherings. So, while I have numerous friends, I found myself struggling for real human, face to face, connection and that feeling of belonging.

There are three things humans require in order to thrive;

faith in something greater than ourselves,

a sense of purpose,

and community/a sense of belonging.

Now that we've moved back to a densely populated area, I'm seeing people are still disconnected locally and super tuned in online. My goal is to gather our local community in order to create real connections to honor and support one another along our soul's journey. The phrase "It takes a village" resonates with me more than ever before after being isolated and something I'll never take for granted again.

Please join me for classes "Live In-Person" for fun and laughter, learning, healing, thriving, and connecting,

all while enjoying some technology free time and maybe that cup of tea!
